How to Plant Dwarf Wax Myrtle

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant shrub that will provide year-round interest in your landscape, look no further than the dwarf wax myrtle (Morella cerifera).

The best time to plant dwarf wax myrtle is in spring or fall. Choose a location that receives full sun to partial shade and has well-drained soil.

Amend the soil with organic matter if necessary to improve drainage.

When you’re ready to plant, dig a hole that is twice the width of the root ball but no deeper.

Carefully remove the plant from its container and loosen any tightly wound roots before placing it in the hole. Backfill with amended soil and water deeply to settle the roots into place.

Established plants are quite drought tolerant so you can cut back on watering unless conditions are extremely dry.

Fertilize annually with an all-purpose fertilizer in early spring before new growth begins.
